Wind Power

I recently moved to an area that is very windy and much to my supris it has made my energy bills higher than I thought. I think the wind captures more heat from my house. What alternatives are out there for wind power? Is there anything affordable you can use in and urban setting? I'd need something that will fit in my backyard and not suprise my neighbors too much. Thanks fo any insight.

I rather liked the post some while back here about using vertical flags.

There's no arguing about it, you must upgrade airtightness and insulation, getting windpower and turning it into thermal heat is an expensive and losing proposition. You must preserve the low temp energy in your house- rather than squander concentrated electrical energy that could be used for fridges and lights, Consider if possible, to sheath your building in styrofoam and the cover it with stucco- much cheaper than upgrading internal insulation. If it's done right, a house on a hill shouldn't cost more than 10% to heat than one in a valley.
