Well Done Met, NOT!!
December 23 08
Britain's Met Office doesn't have the best recent record when it comes to weather prediction.
As the Office itself would say, that trend continues.
Here's the Met on September 25:
The Met Office forecast for the coming winter suggests it is, once again, likely to be milder than average.
It is also likely that the coming winter will be drier than last year.
The forecast of another mild winter across the UK has been welcomed by Help the Aged, who work with other agencies to support older people.
But 88 chilly days later:
As Britain experiences its coldest start to December for more than 20 years, weather-related health problems have risen significantly, putting NHS services under increased pressure.
Importantly, the latest Met Office winter forecast predicts cold weather to continue through into January .
Several health authorities are reporting additional strain on services as respiratory admissions climb to near-epidemic levels in many areas across the country.
Well done, Met.
UPDATE. From Beijing to British Columbia, the coldening continues.
UPDATE II. A warmy suggests:
There should be a prize for the denialist who "proves" global warming doesn't exist by pointing to the lamest, most short-term, most localised cooler than normal weather event.
Let's flip that around and offer a prize for someone pointing to a localised, short-term - and historically predictable - weather event as evidence of warming. Hurricane Katrina, for example.
