RISING METHANE ADDS MORE WARMING

An international study has warned that rising methane levels are likely to accelerate global warming. Samples taken from 12 stations across a global network showed a trend upwards in methane levels.
Chief research scientist of the Marine and Atmospheric Research warned if methane concentrations continue to grow at the current rate the gas will become one of the most dangerous greenhouse gases to the environmental.
The latest study revealed that the rise in methane concentrations is due in part to increased methane releases in the high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere.
Methane accounts for about 20 per cent of all greenhouse gases since the industrial revolution, and is 20 times more potent than CO2. The gas comes mainly from natural wetlands, rice fields, fires, coalmines and natural gas reticulation.
Methane levels have been growing with drainage of tropical wetlands for agricultural use and the increased burning of fossil fuels.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has identified the variations of methane growth rates as a priority area of research.

More idiotic bullshit!
Do you even know what the largest sources of methane release on earth even are?
Have you ever heard of "swamp gas"?

I don't think they've heard of 'science' actually. Strangely enough, some people are beginning to notice these things. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1097850/RICHARD-LITTLEJOHN-If-Del-Boy-today-hed-trading-carbon-offsets.html
The biggest laugh is the 'hydrogen economy' of course.

-> How significicant is the trapped methane, since methane is only -> slightly soluable in water, and has essentially zero solulability in -> ice. Nope. Methane and water-ice can exist as "clathrates", in which the tetrahedral methane molecules are enclosed in the tetrahedral voids that exist between water molecules in ice crystals. Very high concentrations of methane can be trapped in ice in this way. For the clathrate to be stable, the pressure has to be somewhat higher than one atmosphere, and the temperature has to be fairly low, but can be above the normal freezing point of water. Methane clathrates are found on ocean floors in some places. If the temperature rises, the methane can be released, sometimes very rapidly. It is hypothesized that the strange events in the "Bermuda Triangle" have been caused by sudden releases of large amounts of methane in this way. dow

What would it be doing there in the first -> place ? -> Sounds like more scaremongering to me. -> Graham When volcanoes erupt under icecaps, some of the methane they release can get trapped as clathrates in the ice. dow
