BRITAIN GOES FOR 80% CUTS
Britain has taken the lead in cutting greenhouse gas emissions raising its target from a 60 per cent cut to 80 per cent by the year 2050.
Energy and Climate Minister Ed Miliband said the global financial crisis should not be used as a justification to shelve climate change initiatives.
Retreating from climate change objectives was the wrong way as to do so would show a lack of understanding of the relationship between the economic and the environmental tasks ahead, Miliband told Daily Planet Media.
The newly appointed Secretary for Energy and Climate Change said rather than shirking the tough decisions Britain would increase its 2050 target for reducing emissions.
Greg Clark, the Conservative spokesman on climate change support the action stating that aggressive curbs on carbon reduction and a successful economy were "one and the same."
However Italy, Poland and several other European governments have called for a slowdown in climate change reforms despite evidence that climate change was occurring much quicker than anticipated five years ago.
The Arctic temperatures are at running at record high levels with the seas surrounding the North Pole becoming warmer and less salty as the sea ice melts.
