DC generator vs DC Converter

The smallest wire I use for 12 volts is 10 ga and that is very limited. I used 6 ga on each panel and each panel is run to a distribution box I made from scratch. I still need to find a breaker / fuse box, that is up to some kind of code, that is acceptable for 12 volt use and what breakers I need. I have looked at many web sites listing breaker boxes and such and I still can not figure out what I should buy. Perhaps someone can tell me what they are using and I can get a better idea of where I need to go with this. Thanks again... Joe

As far as I recall, the Square D QO breaker boxes (pretty commonly available - ie, even Home Depot may have them) have some/all? breakers rated for up to 48 V DC (not 48V batteries, since those go over 48V, but 48V rated, which should be fine for 12V, and perhaps 24V batteries). The breakers have (IIRC) a limited interrupt rating (5000 amps?), so you may still need a fuse on the battery to cover the bases properly.
At the specialized end of the spectrum, Outback (www.outback.com) makes two different enclosures specifically for DC (PSPV and PSDC), and DC rated/approved breakers to go with them. The less expensive PSPV would probably work fine for a small DC distribution box.
There are probably many other solutions which suit code (read the ratings on the breakers, mostly), those two happen to be handy in what passes for my memory.
