Affordable Internet Services Online, Inc. today launched its complete solar power project solution to enhance its current uptime service level agreements. Since 1997, this start-up company has offered high-end web-site hosting, co-location, dedicated server solutions, web site design, dial-up, search engine solutions and affordable domain name registration at competitive prices - all while operating entirely off the power grid. AISO, wanted to increase their uptime service level agreements, along with taking out the possibility of long-term electricity loss from the electric company. AISO's high-density solar panels convert sunlight to electricity for its servers and facility.
High-end UPS systems stores excess power to keep things running during the times of technical difficulty. In the case of a catastrophic failure, a backup system automatically takes over within one minute. "Right now millions of machines and web sites pollute every day," says AISO, alluding to their dependence on electric power plants that produce carbon dioxide.
Scott Sklar, executive director of the Solar Energy Industries Association, is bullish on solar services. For one thing, Sklar sees a marketing advantage. "The whole idea of using solar technology for branding is an attractive option for consumers," he says, pointing to the success of low-fat, low-cholesterol and organic products. But above all, he says, solar systems promise greater reliability than their grid-based counterparts. "As we experience more and longer duration power outages," Sklar observes, "more companies are adding photovoltaic to extend their battery banks. With the deregulation of the electric utility industry, you'll find that those companies that can be online all the time for the same cost will get the business." AISO's green approach to web hosting plays a more central role. "That this web site is powered by solar energy sends a message in our markets, because it shows that this stuff works," says AISO. The sun has proven to be a dependable, clean power source. "We've demonstrated that you can be high-tech, deliver a high level of service, and do it in a way that's socially responsible," says AISO.
