220v 3 phase to 240v single phase

hi i have bought a heat press from america not nowing it was a four wire 220v 3 phase. what is the easiest and cheapest way to run this machine on 240v single phase, as it has cost me a lot th get it to uk. please help. thank you

I once bought a giant DEC server computer. It needed 3 phase 220v. After I could not find a place to get the power I needed I sold it in parts. Shortly after I found some places on the net that has plans to get 3 phase equipment to work on single phase. Wish I had looked for something like that before I sold it.
Try that.

More details so we aren't guessing?
It is 208V in North America for three phase. IF the heaters are made specifically for 208V, it might run a bit hot at 240V affecting heater life. Many stoves and heaters are made for 240V and run a bit cooler at 208V. If there aren't any motors involved and you have a simple heater, (heat press?) then you might still be able to run it on single phase by rewiring the three heaters to three seperate single phase circuits. Consult an electrician.

Usually 3 phase items consume more power than domestic single phase supplies. What to do depends on the power consumption and what the 3 pahses are running. Heaters vs motors are 2 quite different kettles of fish. 240 to 220 is not difficult, a series L or C can take care of that. Need to make sure it really is 220v 3 phase though, it may not be.

Probably a mistake as it likely did not actually use three phase power anywhere. As an example the VAX 7xxx series boxes take a three phase power input, but each phase powers an individual DC power supply. You could very easily power all three "phases" from a single phase supply (higher amps of course).

You need to upgrade your technology to the 20th Century. Nobody uses MoGens any more. Everything is done with FreqDrives. A good 240 Single Phase Input FreqDrive, that outputs 208Vac Three Phase, can be had fairly cheap, and it has the advantage of NO moving parts to wear out....
Me one who actually, uses these, around the shop.....

A rotary converter which can be made from a 3 phase motor of appropriate size and some capacitors.
Find a 3 phase motor of the same voltage and approximately 1.5 to 2 times the nameplate current rating of the device you want to run. Connect the single phase power to two of the three phase leads coming from the motor. Connect the three phase leads from your device to the motor. Connect a suitable number of motor run capacitors between either of the incoming power phases and the third phase.
There are any number of sites that have charts and formulae for computing the capacitor sizes. The ones I've seen are for 60 hz. 50 hz will require a bit more capacitance.
The chart is only a starting point. Vary the capacitance until the voltage between all pairs of phases (A-B, A-C, C-B) is roughly equal.
Set up on this manner, you will probably have to spin the motor up manually to get it to start. Start it without the 3 phase load attached. There are two methods commonly used to start a rotary converter - a pony motor and additional capacitance. A pony motor is any little motor you might have a hand that can start the big rotor turning. Once the big rotor is turning, it'll come up to speed by itself. The pony motor can be on a pushbutton or on a timer or on a potential-type starting relay.
The second method is to temporarily add enough extra capacitance to make the motor start itself. Two methods are a) a pushbutton and b) a potential-type starting relay. I favor the second, as the converter start is then fully automatic.
