Solar-Fabrik AG (ISIN: DE0006614712) earned an after- tax profit of EUR 948,000 in the third quarter 2005. So that Solar-Fabrik posted earnings after taxes in the amount of EUR -1.445 million for the first three quarters of 2005. The half yearly earnings had amounted to EUR -2.393 million. EBIT in the third quarter alone amounted to EUR 1.082 million (first two quarters: EUR - 1.776 million). In the first three quarters of 2005, Solar-Fabrik AG posted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) in the amount of EUR -694,000. Sales revenue did not quite reach the level of the previous year (EUR 36.331 million) at EUR 32.268 million.
In the third quarter, our new 100% subsidiary company Global Expertise Wafer Division Ltd. (GEWD), which posted a profit of EUR 363,000 in August and September, made a considerable contribution to the positive business development of Solar-Fabrik AG.
The main issue in the photovoltaics industry in the past few months has been the procurement of raw materials. Resources are currently very scarce because the global photovoltaics market is booming. At the end of the value chain, solar module producers like Solar-Fabrik AG faced especially narrow bottlenecks. As a result, in the past few months Solar-Fabrik was not always able to run at full production capacity even though its order books are full.
The acquisition of GEWD in July effected the turnaround. Fortunately, since September Solar-Fabrik has been able to use solar cells from the wafers made by its new subsidiary company GEWD in its production lines. The measures that the company's management took to secure a supply of materials are thus bearing fruit. We are thus able to provide supplies to the wide-margin sector of retail shops, which improved the item raw-materials-and-consumables ratio and gross yield. In addition, the company is back in the black, as forecast.
The acquisition of GEWD adds a strategically important segment of the value chain to the Solar-Fabrik's portfolio. The third quarter already shows how important this step was for Solar-Fabrik AG. The management at Solar-Fabrik AG therefore expects the fourth quarter of 2005 to be very successful.
