estimating solar panel requirements
I live at 40 degrees latitude. I am curious about how to estimate my needs in terms of solar panel amps.

Take a look at http://www.green-trust.org/2000/solar/findsun.htm and http://www.green-trust.org/2003/pvsizing/default.htm
In our case, in upstate NY, we are rated for 2.53 sun hours daily in winter, so a 100 watt panel might output 253 wh's daily.
