Power meter

I got one of those new Electric meters that report to the electric company each night is the myth still true that if you use a high power magnet on the front of the meter is will slow it down or stop it.

Power meter

The myth is that you can tamper with the meter and the power detectives wont do anything.

LOL! A "myth" is, by definition, a "myth"! Ain't true now, never was true, and never will be true, that a magnet will change the meter readings. It's a "fact" however, that if you're caught messing with your meter, whether you succeed, or not, you could pay some hefty fines.
Here's a new 'factual' myth for you to spread: Remember, it's a mythg, not a factoid:
Notice that little, tiny opening there in the face of the meter? That's a tiny camera that sends pics of everything going on all around the meter, including on the other side of the wall, complete with audio, day and night, to who ever happens to be monitoring that frequency at any moment. The other myth is that it's not the electric company; it's mafia gangstas who guarantee a minimal use of electricity and keep track of their competition that way. I think the real estate tax assesor monitors it, too. I watch mine all the time. <g>

In an experiment with two of the most powerful magnets I have ever seen, from submarine mine bombs, we slowed a mechanical meter down 13% on a meter testboard with the right magnet positioning.
These magnets were so strong they were scary. If you got them closer than a few inches apart they would take your fingers off between them. When together they could not be pried apart without tools and sliding them off the edges.
YMMV and will. The correct place has to be known and they are quite visible from the street.

The truth is that you don't actually have to steal power to go to jail for it. Tampering with the power system is like tampering with the mail. Since you probably won't be caught with the stolen property, the fact that you've tampered, is evidence enough to get you convicted.

The old idea of a magnet apparently was to slow the movement of a spinning-disk type meter. I don't know if it ever worked.
My understanding is that the newest meters don't have the disk, but, instead, have an LED that flashes a certain number of times per kWh. So the magnet definitely wouldn't work.
Also, there are heavy penalties for tampering with electricity meters, and other forms of stealing utilities. Much, much better to reduce your bill with legitimate conservation.

Besides what everyone else has said, you have to be aware that this is a

public forum. Be careful what you say you might do (IYSWIM my english seems to be degenerating to your level).
