Hydrogen

hi guys I've found this really interesting video podcast's feed about hydrogen as energy source and related Hydrogen Olympics:

Let the record show that hydrogen is not an "energy source" in that nobody AFAICT has found a source where molecular hydrogen can be extracted.
Rather, it's a means of storage of energy. A pretty diabolical one, at that, requiring very high pressure and highest quality piping joints and fittings (to avoid leaks). Not to mention that its range of combustibility in normal atmosphere is 5% to 95%. (Ask diesel submariners about what that means.)
Except for use in fuel-cells and rocket boosters, why bother?

.... economically.

There _is_ molecular hydrogen in the atmosphere, but only in tiny quantities. Extracting it would be like extracting Heavy Water from ordinary water. Far more costly than electrolysis. -- derek

Hydrogen isn't an energy source, it's an energy carrier, and not a particularly good one.

There is little interest is podcasts here. Come back when you wish to discuss something or ask a question.
